Is this the end?
..."Once the insurgent military took control of the District of Columbia and Pentagon they negotiated preliminary labor and monetary fund policies with the transnationals. The fundamentalists then began the task of sifting through Google's record archive. Each mountain of bodies scheduled for disintegration would stand epitaph to their online sins. The motto "Don't be evil", it turned out, was a warning."

The word "design" is a powerful albeit increasingly convoluted term for a thought process that creates order from complex caches of synaptic stimuli collected through the senses of every cognizant intelligence. It is not proprietary to any perceived stereotype. It is true that visual aesthetics take a lot of credit these days, but it is important to note that such information should be seen in a contextual subset. it is not the face of a company that is inherently attractive. It is the expression on that face...and such beauty is the result of an entire body being sufficiently fulfilled.

The sketch as video
In The Book (Sketchtest6A edit) from Travis Purrington on Vimeo.
Started making these time lapse videos of sketching... This is an ok attempt at the basic idea, but hope to do something more intriguing soon.Friday, October 29, 2010

The sketch
in order to facilitate many sketchbooks procured at Christmas. I have a new motto. Faster sketches, more sketches. I find this way of thinking mixed with the unerasability of pen force a nice simplicity. Here are around 200 pages compiled together.

My Surface Skis

I forgot to include these lovely images of my Surface 'Watch Lifes' (seen here at aprox 3000 meters accross from the Beitschhorn) in Lauchernalp switzerland. They were designed by my friend and colleague Jason Eichhorst who I worked with on Artboard Magazine and the Motorola tent graphics for the Burton World Demo Tour. They have been the object of constant stares here in Europe. The term "schöne schi" (beautiful skis) is likely heard from both the old grifter in the gondola and the Eurogangster in the park (as evident in my visit to Laax last week).
My Naxo nX21 bindings (same ones I used to create the amalgamating natural / technological structures below) compliment perfectly the design of the ski by contrast. My only complaint is that the Di-sublimation process used to print the graphics doesn't allow for the crisp lines and color pop that screen printing techniques allow and would really make this design golden. Notwithstanding, I would dare say it is the most handsome ski set up I have ever owned.

Mike Schneider Started Surface Skis shortly after I met him in the early 2000's. He owned a skate/snowboard/ski shop in Lehi, UT as well as a small clothing brand called Finseven. I was also attempting to start a small punk/hardcore-inspired ski clothing line at the time called Stalemate and Mike had an industrial tshirt press in his garage that I used in the original designs. I see the Surface brand as a much needed breath of fresh air in the cog-turning, over-amped world of the freestyle ski brand. The team has gotten world class and I hope to see them become a small tidal force in the near future.
Peaking Above the Clouds
Last Sat. I finally made it to Laax. Exploring/hiking/shooting by morning. Long overdue training in the park by day. These images were taken after a hike up La Siala (2810M) from the lift. These clouds are likely mixed with ash from the Eyjafjallajokull Volcano that erupted in Iceland three days prior. Not sure the pictures do it justice as the panorama was amazing, but I tried to capture a detail or two. One O'them moments you're happy to be alive.

Danksgiving 09

I know its a beyond late posting, but I'm trying to catch up. This was done for the 2 international Master groups studying here in Basel (for the record I also cooked 2 turkeys for the event and a generous helping of mashed potatoes complete with Idaho style turkey gravy.)

What's behind an Egon Schiele sketch
I suppose this is prospectively worthless until I throw the Egon Schiele sketch that this was created in reference to...So yeah, tough titties for now.
